Not necessarily their memories, but perhaps a part of their consciousness is there... floating in the internet space.

Maybe we should think of some code words, different ones for different people, before Thursday. Keep it to a small circle of people you trust, and then you can try the code word next week.

It wouldn't need to be too complicated. Pick two or three people you'd trust with this.

That makes this easier to talk through then. Think of a code word -- something you might not normally say, but we'll make it significant.

[ She thinks about this for a moment. They were talking about flowers during the trial, so the first thing she thinks of-- ]

Okay. So, if something happened to one of us, the other can send the message "What's my favourite flower?" and if it really is the dead and not someone playing a trick, the answer should be "a rose".

Alright... though I would prefer it if nothing happened to us in the first place.

[ he pokes her on the forehead. ]

But if I did, you'd be wondering the same thing that you're wondering now.

[ Even after the forehead poke, her eye looks off to the side. ]

I think... I would be too sad to wonder about anything else.

It’s not like I’m planning on dying. But when we can’t control what happens— it’s better to be aware it could happen, rather than blindsided by it if it does.

[ and as far as he reckons, he’s more likely to be targeted than yuri would be. ]

[ Yuri quietly sighs. ]

I just... wanted to have a bit of hope, after all this time.

[ It's hard to admit that and she's prepared to be called a fool about it. Even so, she's here and she said it. It feels like that's all she can do right now other than waiting to see who dies next. ]

I think you can still find it, if you want. Depends on what you want to latch on to. If ‘no one else dying’ isn’t possible, maybe figuring out why and stopping it’d work better.

[ there’s that temptation to have a cigarette again. nothing’s stopping him, but he doesn’t go to pull one out and light it. ]

I’m not going to promise something I can’t keep, but if it does happen, I’m not going to just roll over and let myself be killed.
