[ well, affection week is probably helping. but-- sometimes a week of nearly dying, dying and getting gravely injured can put a few things into perspective.
he's surprised, but not unhappy when she fully looks at him. after hiding her face and the nervous gestures she'd been doing only a moment or two before this. he isn't someone who would force another person to kiss him, or anything like that. and while he asked, he was completely serious that this was something that she had to want as well. if she'd been too nervous, if she'd said no, he would've backed off.
but she's looking directly at him, and he sees her lean in just slightly. (take your time, think things through-- but they don't have all the time in the world, and would it be better to not and regret if this place got to them first? or would he be happier knowing he tried?)
[ Imagine if I did some terrible fakeout right now.
But no, so they finally kiss. Not too long, not too short, but absolutely chaste. It's warm. They're alive. They're here. It feels so surreal, and her heart pounds so hard, but it's much better than the other kind that she gets before an impending doom, so this is very welcome.
Yuri is the one who slowly pulls away first, but after a moment, she leans in to kiss him again. }
[ Yeah, she starts screaming and hits him and it’s like ‘oop’.
shu is perfectly fine keeping it brief and simple, if that’s what’s the most comfortable here. it’s just— nice. to do something, and have it reciprocated. yuri’s lips feel soft and warm and it’s just a reminder that, even with the weekend ahead of them and no idea what’s going to happen after midnight tonight, they are still alive. and— yes, right now, as far as he’s concerned, it’s better to have done this than to have not and regretted it later on if the worst happens.
because he’s still a realist. he doesn’t want to die here, he doesn’t want to lose everything because of forces outside of their control. but it could happen. and he has to be aware of that.
when he feels her pull back, he doesn’t try to grip her arm or stop her. but when she moves back of her own accord it’s impossible not to let a little smile flit across his face before reciprocating. he’s the one that started this, but why would he ever be disappointed that she wanted to continue it? ]
[ It's a small kiss, but a reciprocated kiss nonetheless. It feels strange to have the luxury for romance, even though she is still in an environment where people could die at any time. She won't lie, it feels nice. The kiss feels nice. Yuri wants to kiss a little more, until she realizes that they're in the medbay and that Shu is still injured. She has to be smart about this, so she pulls away, looking a little sheepish. ]
[ see, now he's regretting not being in the pod longer. except not entirely, because he'd still be in there now if he had stayed in the recommended amount of time.
so, maybe it's not so bad. a little is better than nothing. ]
...
Good.
[ it would have been bad if she'd gone "actually, I didn't like that at all". he'll shift and let himself lean forwards to rest his forehead on her shoulder. comfortable. ]
[ Imagine being told that and destroyed on the spot...
Their hands still intertwined, Yuri nuzzles a little against the side of his head since it's resting on her shoulder now. ]
The reason why it felt the worst to see you, thinking you were dead... I didn't want you to go. Not yet. I didn't get to say anything yet. I... wanted a little more—more time with you. Even if the dead aren't really dead anymore, that would have hurt... a lot.
Mm, that-- wasn't intentional. Sorry. I didn't mean to give you a scare.
[ he sighs. ]
You showed up a couple of times in that place. At the end, they were specifically using people who would hurt us to try and slow us down, stop us fighting back. [ she'd been something like a corpse there, reanimated and acting like a puppet. it'd been unnerving. ]
I think making a promise nothing is going to happen would be naive in a place like this. But I don't plan on dying here. Not for real.
[ That's definitely a sentiment that they both share. They don't want to die, but if something happens, them's the breaks. ]
Making a promise over something you can't control... is not a promise anyone should be making. And I trust you, that you want to live. You have a lot to live for.

Do you want to? I think that's the most important thing. Figuring out what you want to do for yourself.

Alright. I can probably get another hour in.

... Good. I'll set it to an hour after you get inside.
