[ This is the transition where Yuri takes Shu to the combat room. The lockers have something about EVA suits made for using in the combat room, but does Yuri want to wear that? Not really... anyway, she finished drinking her coffee and plucks a training sword from the armory. She didn't bring her practice sword with her, but she's been keeping up with practice fights. She feels a little jittery... maybe it's the coffee. ]
[ love them looking at the EVA suits and going 'actually, no'. shu will also be sipping the last of his coffee and setting the cup down before going and examining the wall display for a suitable weapon. knife versus sword is fine but he knows he's gonna have a disadvantage in reach.
so he'll grab something like a tantou off the wall and give it a swing. good enough. ]
[ Shu should be allowed multiple knives, really. Yuri wouldn't mind it, but she charges in for a slight feint as if swinging from the left, but she's actually swinging from the right at Shu's shoulder level. ]

his default is to lean back, unsure if this is a feint or a real strike -- if left and right aren't clear, then back he goes. it's a sudden movement, one he didn't expect to make so soon, so he ends up taking a couple of steps backwards in the process. ]
[ Perhaps there's a glint in her eye for a moment, but Yuri quickly adjusts her sword's position and thrusts it at his torso with a lot of strength behind it.
She's not really warming up. It may be a spar, but she's going straight for the big stuff. ]

he does duck to one side and lift his own "blade" to deflect hers. there's no clash of metal on metal, just the sad little whomp of foam hitting foam. he's quick to step forward to retaliate with a stab of his own knife, towards the arm yuri is holding her sword with. ]
[ She will take each sparring session seriously!! But when Shu ducks and retaliates, Yuri is wide open. The arm gets foam-stabbed, but she takes that chance to turn the sword in her hand to do an uncomfortable overhead swing towards the wrist that's used for knifing. ]
[ Yuri thinks dodging is the hardest part, especially if the other is speedy. One thing about the sword that she usually uses is that it's pretty easy to spin by the handle to pull off some orthodox swings.
Foam weapon fights would be different than real weapon fights, huh. That's why she aims to disarm Shu now by aiming a sword thrust to the hand that holds the knife. ]
[ it's a good move -- quick and nimble, and focused on removing his means to fight back rather than attack him directly.
but shu has a tight and steady grip on his "knife" for the moment. the jab to his wrist is surprising, but not enough that he's not able to maintain a grip on the handle of the blade and flick his wrist to swipe it under and up to strike yuri's wirst instead. ]

he steps forwards again and twists his motion to duck towards her side and aim a stab there where she's exposed for the moment. ]

But even so, she lowers herself to quickly swipe the sword with her other hand and backs up to gain some distance between the two.
Then she uses opportunistic slash. Even though it's by her nondominant hand, she's... pretty good with it. (I rolled a 20 somehow) ]
