[ oh this gloominess is a lot. he had sort of gotten the impression that yuri is a person who tends to keep things to herself and seems a little nervous about things, but this was. something to walk into.
he offers a very light smile back, though the reflecting emotion is both curious and concerned. roboji's rolling in after him, and she may notice shoma's carrying a new, small toolkit. ]
Hey. [ ...this might be overstepping, but: ] How are things?
...but i guess it's unfair to push her if she really doesn't want to talk about it.
instead, he latches onto the question and nods. ]
It's not as extensive as mine from home, but it's a good start. I asked the senior crew if they'd be able to get me some basic tools and this was in my locker this morning. [ despite the levelness of his tone he's actually fairly excited!!!
and suspicious. there is suspicion in his emotions still. ]
[ Yuri understands the suspicion for both things, actually--her state of being and the senior crew members. There's some acknowledgement as she nods. Also, the excitement is really cute. It's so nice to see someone actually passionate about something that isn't for basic human needs. ]
Would it be okay if I watched you work on it?
[ She's very genuine about it, since she's curious. But she would also understand if being watched would make him feel nervous, so she's not pushy about the suggestion. ]
...yeah, sure. If you want? It's not that exciting. [ but the vibes are sincere. he's actually used to people watching him work sometimes because he's rude and will keep working while he has guests at home. roboji's wheeling over toward the desk that's shoma's, and shoma follows to begin setting out some tools. ]
I don't usually have it out at home if I'm not working on it, so all of the activity's causing some extra wear on it. I'm going to have to keep watching to make sure it stays in peak performance.
[ plus...at least it's something i can do and know how it works. ]
[ There's a bit of a sad smile on Yuri's face. There's definitely some sympathy to that line of thought, because she understands it. She feels the same way and perhaps Shoma can feel that too. ]
[ he will hold his buddy still and begin opening his panels in the back to check for any moisture damage, mostly. considering roboji also woke up from cryosleep. ]
I built it so that its response time, speed and dexterity is almost on par with a person. It's been programmed so it can move on its own without me controlling it, and it recognizes a lot of sounds, movements and emotions and can respond appropriately. Plus it can support all of my weight.
Yeah. When I made Robota initially it could only lift forty-five pounds. So when I made Roboji I made sure to upgrade it to carry at least double. I haven't had a reason to carry me yet though.
[ like it did carry someone else who outweighs him by at least 40 pounds but you know. details. ]
There's a mechanism inside called a gyro, or a gyroscope. It's...think of it like a disc where the outside is stable, but the inside axis can rotate however it wants. Even when it's moving, the axis is unaffected from overbalancing or throwing itself off. It's the main thing keeping it stable so Roboji can move, lift and carry things without caving in.
[ this is all, like, extreme nerd talk but the vibes from him are actually strangely relaxed while he's busy opening his robot friend to examine him. this is probably the most calm and easygoing he's been and it seems to come to him as second nature. ]
[ Honestly, Yuri is here for it. If she could help him feel relaxed whenever she can, she will consider that to be a job well done. She feels a little happy as Shoma explains things, to which, she was listening to, of course. She feels like she understands the mechanics of it a little better now. ]
He would be really good at moving packages around, wouldn't he?
[ She doesn't want to think about Shoma having to move them... ]
[ sweet yuri. it's nice to actually be rooming with someone who isn't an asshole, actually, though he is in fact thinking about that gloom from earlier. perhaps that's why he keeps talking anyway. ]
Yeah. I did design him for efficiency...even if I didn't think it'd be for something like this. It'll be a good use for him and I can really test out his limits. Makes you wonder how many deliveries we're really going to be doing though.
Tell me about it. If those numbers on our profile mean anything... [ some people with nat 20s. ] Roboji's about the best way I can keep up. But I hope you're right. You'd think they'd take that kind of thing into consideration for us since they brought us here.

I was just thinking about some things and got lost in thought. What do you have there? Is that a toolbox for Roboji?

What else can Roboji do?

[ That's honestly impressive. What the heck. She didn't think Roboji was that strong. ]
That handshake was definitely the least it could do back then...

To hold something that heavy on a single wheel...
[ How?? ]

[ She thinks about all those people who kicked the door on their first day. ]
I think they'll be reasonable with assigning particular weight of the packages as well. If we pull a muscle, that's no good...
