Anyway this is blowing her mind. You could make stories where the aloof rogue was the Prince Charming? And people read them?]
Oh. Oh! Really? [She turns the book over and considers the cover. Perhaps this should come home with her. For research.] I've never heard of a love story like that before. Is that your type?
[Said a little teasingly. But also please tell her more she is so desperate to learn]
Lucien's really nice, actually! He's gruff, but he does care.
Rosamund immediately puts the book down in favour of a swift surrender.]
I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to! [She tries for another smile.] I shouldn't pester people about those sorts of things before we've even met. Can we try again?
[Now she'll extend a hand towards the blushing girl.]
Well. My family is... [She'd rather not think about it.] My parents loved me very much. And I do have friends, and some of them have been in love, but it's—
[She grasps at the air for her words, and still finds nothing.]
You see, I think it's easiest to just say that I was a princess. And to save my kingdom, it was expected that I would meet my future husband in a certain way, and I would not have a choice in it, but that was supposed to be a good thing! And it was also the supposed to be the only thing. The only thing that I had to do and was expected of me.
Except, now I'm here. And I don't know anything about how any of it is supposed to go.
[Oh god why did she say anything? Her and her big mouth.
Rosamund tugs at the briars wrapped around her middle, much thicker than the ones that run over the crown of her head, her neck, her upper arms. Plants that nick and cut and grow from her own body. A body riddled with scars, shallow but numerous, scattered all over.]
We were cursed. And on my eighteenth birthday I fell into an enchanted sleep, and we were supposed to wait for a prince to fight through all the thorns, and wake me with True Love's First Kiss.
[She pauses. Then pinches at her brow, sighing loudly.]
I know it sounds stupid but I promise it's not a lie.
No no, don't be! [She brushes a curl behind her ear and nods, following the other girl to the seats. They can come back for books later.
She sweeps her skirt beneath her legs before sitting perfectly prim, back to her usual composure. Though her smile remains a touch bashful it's genuine and appreciative.]
Well. You know a little about me now. Tell me about yourself! Are you from a place like this?
You don't say? [Okay that is fascinating. She's met folks with passing familiarity of this sort of thing but no one with direct comparisons. At least as far as she knows.]
And these "vampires", they're all over your world too? What's your home called? Mine's Reverie, of the Neverafter.

[ help. Yuri's face turns red like her hair. Absolute tomato head. ]
It sounds like Lucien fits perfectly into that type...
[ silence about her types ]

Hello there. I'm Rosamund.

I'm Yuri. And... it's fine. I was a little startled. That's all.

[Rosamund grimaces, then leans a touch closer and speaks low.]
Truthfully? I don't know the first thing about love. Or romance. I've got nothing! I don't think I've even read a good book about it.

[ ? ]
You don't have any family? Or close friends? I think that's some sort of love... even though I should be the last person to talk about such things.

[ This deserves more of her attention, so Yuri just puts the book back on the shelf. ]

It's not stupid. If those are your circumstances, then that's what they are.
[ She sounds very firm about this. ]
... I'm sorry for asking. Let's sit down somewhere.
[ Bookstores have this neat little coffee shop tables, right? Right. They're going to go and sit on those chairs now. ]

Though we don't have to worry about dying anytime when we walk through its streets, so this is definitely better by far.

[ Very bland. ]
There aren't real vampires as far as I know... though there was a vampire monster that I had to deal with once.
