In particular, they all boost alertness, or something to that effect.
[to go into a bit of a preamble:]
This week, I was poking around on the planet, and I saw some kids using a drug provided by a cult called the Covenant of the Morning, who worship the CEM waves—Temenos might've mentioned it to you?
After it made them sick, they sobered up by using a drink from Scrap, which got me thinking about the limited items Scrap provides us.
[...]
Well, to put a long story short—after Rosamund woke up yesterday, I asked if she was willing to use one of my Morpheus codes. ... And as it turns out, using it did have an effect on the affliction.
I don't know how important the Covenant of the Morning is, but the main thing is that they're a cult on this planet who worship the CEM waves and flowers. The drug I saw was made up of the latter.
[he takes a sip from his drink]
Before Rosamund used the code, she was in a similar state as when she broke down in trial, if calmer—on edge, angry with all of us.
[he's quiet for a moment, frowning as though thinking about something.]
... As soon as she used it, though, she... reacted strongly, in a way that never happened to me when I tested it out. In short, she immediately went from being sullen to horrified—what she'd done to Diluc was finally allowed to sink in, it looked like.
[disclaimer i am not far in my pc with rosamund but]
I wonder if it's because she was saddled with the huge onset of guilt while... you didn't have anything of that weighing you down at the forefront of your mind...? Not that I'm saying you don't have anything heavy on your mind, but the fresh sudden feelings of it.
[ While Yuri doesn't know everything about Charles, she thinks Charles probably should have tested... someone else probably more anxious than he is. ]
It would definitely amplify that sort of thing... hm. Oh, regarding the tea that I gave you, the energy effect only came from its tea version. If someone bit into the raw ingredient directly, it would calm them down.
Mm. Well, with only one anecdote, it might not be anything. But like I said, I got the idea because I saw that on the planet, one of Scrap's items was already proven to counteract the cult's drugs—and if the cult worships the CEM waves, which mess with people's minds, it wouldn't be strange to think their drug was in a similar category to the waves.
[and rosamund's reaction upon using the code was extreme but charles will not get into the details of how that went down because it really wasn't great and he doesn't want to be openly sad in front of yuri.]
Though obviously, it was only temporary and didn't do anything to help her in the long run. [AS SEEN TODAY...] But it might be one lead, since I don't think it's a coincidence that all of Scrap's limited items revolve around it.
I want to run some test trials with it for the upcoming week's items as well, just to see if they yield similar results. But that would mean having to beat everyone to the punch in getting the limited items.
[ She has nothing to give Anise, Yuri doesn't even want to think about it. ]
But it's interesting that you mentioned Scrap because, I was talking with Shoma the other day...
[ She pulls up some notes on her IRIS to remind herself. ]
He said that Eunhyuk described where the dead live as a place where you would throw out junk or random scraps--basically where rats would live. He also likened it to a belly if the Eudora had a more animal-like anatomy with its shape. It's also named "Helly Belly".
Scrap also voiced that they collect all the things "this whale of a ship" leaves behind. It... sounds like too much of a coincidence now.
[ The people weren't dead. And having nothing to lose if lying. ]
... Anyway, yes. Scien mentioned "every week, we meet a ghost", but he got cut off there and reappeared to continue talking, saying that it was annoying to sit through and that he'll try to summarize it in the letters. By that, I think the ghosts that they see every week impart some valuable information, but they can't get it through because of the censoring. I told Scien to attempt shift cipher coding and the system managed to catch onto that too...
[ ... ]
Oh, shift ciphering is a code where you write your original message and change every letter to the nth sequence of the alphabet.
I know Arthur wanted to try sending a letter in code... Too bad it doesn't work. At least they were able to tell us some things at the party, though—even if they were still being censored.
I'm working with Shoma to rule out several aspects of our situation. For that, I would need several kinds of people. One of them is "not familiar with Eudora's technology before boarding".
So would it be okay if I could draw a blood sample from you? It's with a syringe and Io would be wonderful in not letting it hurt at all, since he's a professional.

I... don't think he mentioned it to me. What does the affliction actually entail other than being unable to confess that they're the murderer?

... When you put it like that, it does sound like Scrap is someone who has access to the... Helly Belly.

I sent a message to Eunhyuk if anyone there is familiar with Scrap's work. The rats don't talk, but they can nod or shake their heads.

I hope. The weekly ghost visitor too.

Everything I hear about where they are is always nonsensical... but hopefully Eunhyuk will have an answer.
... Weekly ghost visitor?

[ She was so sick of pixeled people, Charles. She was losing it.

Haha, yeah. It was nice getting to talk to them again, even if under odd circumstances.

It was. I didn't realize how much I missed them until I got to talk to them.

Charles, I have a favor to ask...

What is it?

Well, that wasn't the favour I was expecting, but sure. I did agree to Dahut and Scien, and I trust you more than I did them at the time, so why not?
[he won't even put caveats like he did with dahut and scien because he did not want two strangers with his blood back then.]
no subject
Thank you! It would help us a lot. I'm trying to get everything together by Tuesday so that Shoma and I can work on them with Io.
[ idk if you need to request an audience for this but as long as charles asks io by monday, he should be good... ]
no subject
Got it.
[after a pause, as he glances around the room—]
Now it's my turn to ask for a favour from you... sort of.
no subject
[ ??? What could be so important that Charles took a quick look around the room for, she wonders. ]
no subject
There's something I want to tell you, Yuri. However, you can't tell anyone else—not the dead, or anyone else on this ship.
If you're not comfortable with having to potentially lie to them, then I'd understand. ... But I'd have to know that now.

Yuri's eye widens a little and grows serious. ]
